Frank Sinatra was an American singer and actor, celebrated as one of the most iconic entertainers of the 20th century. Known as the Chairman of the Board and Ol' Blue Eyes, he sold over 150 million records worldwide. Born in Hoboken, New Jersey to Italian immigrant parents, Sinatra started his career in the swing era and first gained attention singing with the Harry James band, later becoming a teenage idol after signing with Columbia Records. His smooth vocal style and collaborations with arrangers like Nelson Riddle led to landmark albums such as In the Wee Small Hours and Songs for Swingin' Lovers. In 1960, Sinatra founded Reprise Records, producing classic records and memorable collaborations with musicians like Count Basie, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Duke Ellington. Signature songs include "My Way" and "New York, New York". Sinatra also found major success in film, winning an Academy Award for his role in From Here to Eternity and starring in musicals like Guys and Dolls and High Society. His television appearances, including The Frank Sinatra Show, added to his fame. Over his long career, Sinatra earned eleven Grammy Awards and numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. He remains widely regarded as one of the greatest singers in popular music history.
