Argon 8M is a compact desktop and 19-inch rack-mountable 8-voice wavetable synthesizer module leaning on the heritage of Modal's legendary 00 series instruments. Its 32 high-resolution wavetable oscillators — 4 per voice — draw on 180 carefully crafted wavetables across 36 banks of 5 morphable waveform sets, augmented by a PWM bank and 3 noise/modulation banks accessible on Oscillator 2. The chassis measures 384 × 127 × 81 mm and weighs 2.1 kg, making it ideal for desktop and rack setups alike.

Wavetable Engine

32 static wavetable modifiers — including de-rez, wave folders, waveshapers, phase shapers and rectify — and 8 types of oscillator modifier such as Phase Mod (FM), Ring Mod, Amp Mod, Hard Sync and Windowed Sync provide a transparent yet rich sonic character. Eight filter types including 2-pole and 4-pole configurations shape the tone precisely.

Modulation and Performance

Two audio-rate LFOs, three dedicated envelope generators and a 12-slot modulation matrix with 55 destinations deliver expressive layering possibilities. A 512-note step/real-time sequencer, 32-step arpeggiator, MPE support and 500 patch slots round out the performance toolkit, with MODALapp providing remote editing.

Effects and Connectivity

The three-slot FX engine with 27 algorithms covers Distortion, Drive, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Tremolo, LoFi, Rotary, all three Delay modes and Reverb. Argon 8M connects via USB, MIDI In/Out, dual 1/4" TS line outputs, a 1/4" TRS headphone output and a 1/8" TRS stereo audio input, powered at DC 9.0 V – 1.5 A.
