André 3000, born André Lauren Benjamin in 1975 in Atlanta, is an influential American rapper, singer, producer, and actor best known as one half of the acclaimed hip-hop duo Outkast alongside Big Boi. Outkast released six critically and commercially successful albums, producing hits like Ms. Jackson, Roses, So Fresh So Clean, and Hey Ya!, with the latter topping the charts and winning a Grammy. After Outkast disbanded in 2007, André 3000 gained further recognition for his standout guest appearances and earned multiple Grammy Awards as a solo artist. In 2023, he released his debut solo album New Blue Sun, an instrumental project highlighting his skills as a flutist, which was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys. Beyond music, André 3000 has appeared in various films and TV shows, notably portraying Jimi Hendrix in All Is by My Side and starring in series such as Dispatches from Elsewhere. He is widely celebrated as one of the greatest rappers of all time.
