Paradise Lost is an English gothic metal band formed in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Recognized as pioneers of the death-doom genre, they played a key role in shaping the gothic metal sound. Their lineup has remained notably stable, with Nick Holmes on vocals, Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy on guitars, and Steve Edmondson on bass. Holmes and Mackintosh are the main songwriters. Over their career, Paradise Lost has been a major influence on the metal scene and have sold more than two million albums worldwide.
