The Jimi Hendrix Experience was a British-American rock band formed in London in 1966. The original trio featured guitarist and songwriter Jimi Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding, and drummer Mitch Mitchell. Later, Billy Cox replaced Redding on bass. Although active for only a few years, the band released three influential studio albums and left a lasting mark on rock music. After the group split in 1969, Hendrix and Mitchell joined Billy Cox to form Gypsy Sun and Rainbows, performing at Woodstock. Hendrix later worked with the Band of Gypsys before briefly reuniting with Mitchell and Cox under the name The Cry of Love.
