Unlike omnidirectional lavaliers, the AT803's cardioid polar pattern provides moderate rejection of sound arriving from behind the microphone position, reducing the level of clothing rustle, ambient background noise, and competing voices in multi-person recording environments. Miniature Body-Worn Design

The capsule housing is small enough to be taped or clipped inside garments, mounted on a tie clip, or hidden within theatrical costumes. With a frequency range of 30 Hz to 15 kHz, the AT803 covers the full speech intelligibility range. It operates on Audio-Technica's UniMount bodypack power system or via the AT8537 inline preamp from standard phantom power sources, making it compatible with both wireless and wired signal chains.
