Jerrald King Goldsmith (1929–2004) was an acclaimed American composer, conductor, and orchestrator whose film and television scores shaped nearly five decades of popular culture. Renowned for his innovative style, Goldsmith received eighteen Academy Award nominations, winning for The Omen in 1977, along with multiple Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations. His work includes iconic soundtracks for films such as Planet of the Apes, Chinatown, Alien, Poltergeist, Total Recall, L.A. Confidential, Mulan, and several entries in the Star Trek and Rambo franchises. Goldsmith also created the Universal Pictures fanfare still used today.
