Gary Glitter

Gary Glitter

Gary Glitter, born Paul Francis Gadd on 8 May 1944, is an English former singer who rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s. Originally performing as Paul Raven during the 1960s, he adopted the stage name Gary Glitter and became known for his glam rock style, energetic concerts, and flamboyant outfits. He achieved major chart success with hits like "Rock and Roll (Parts 1 and 2)", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "I Love You Love Me Love", "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)", and "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again". Over his career, Glitter sold more than 20 million records and scored 26 UK hit singles, with several reaching number one. His album "Touch Me" was his highest-charting release. Glitter’s music career was overshadowed and ultimately ended by a series of criminal convictions related to child sexual abuse offences, beginning with his 1999 conviction for possession of child pornography. He was later convicted of further offences in Vietnam in 2006 and in the UK in 2015. Now widely condemned, his music is no longer played on mainstream platforms, and performances featuring him are rarely broadcast.
