Hanoi Rocks was a Finnish rock band formed in 1979, known for being the first Finnish group to chart in the UK and achieving popularity in Japan. Their high-energy blend of rock and punk influenced the glam metal scene, leaving a mark on bands like Guns N Roses and Poison. In 1984, while on the brink of international breakthrough, tragedy struck when drummer Razzle died in a car accident, leading to the band’s breakup in 1985. Frontman Michael Monroe made history as the first Finnish artist to chart on the US Billboard 200. Hanoi Rocks reunited in the 2000s and enjoyed continued success, selling up to a million albums worldwide, especially in Scandinavia and Japan. The original members came together again for one special show in 2022 at Helsinki Ice Hall.
