Hugh Masekela was a celebrated South African musician and composer often called the father of South African jazz. Renowned for his skill on the trumpet, flugelhorn, and cornet, he became internationally recognized both for his vibrant jazz recordings and his powerful anti-apartheid songs like Soweto Blues and Bring Him Back Home. In 1968, he achieved major global success with his instrumental hit Grazing in the Grass, which topped the US pop charts.
