Janis Ian, born in 1951 in Farmingdale, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter known for her influential presence in the folk music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. She is best recognized for her hit songs "Society's Child" and "At Seventeen," the latter reaching number one on the Billboard 200 with her album Between the Lines in 1975. Ian has received two Grammy Awards, including one for her autobiography. Beyond music, she is also an accomplished columnist and science fiction author.
