Paul Desmond was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer best known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He wrote the iconic "Take Five," which became the best-selling jazz single in history. A key figure in cool jazz, Desmond also performed and recorded with notable musicians like Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, and Ed Bickert. He passed away from lung cancer in 1977.
