Slave was a funk band from Ohio that rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The group was founded in Dayton in 1975 by trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Washington, who grew up in New Jersey, and trombonist Floyd Miller. Known for their innovative sound, including the use of the electric trumpet, Slave became notable figures in the era's dynamic funk scene.
